How do I know which Jeep generation I have?

Check your model year: Wrangler YJ (1987-1995, square headlights), TJ (1997-2006, round headlights + coil springs), JK (2007-2018), JL (2018+). Gladiator JT is the truck (2020+). For 4-door Wranglers, JKU and JLU refer to the Unlimited wheelbase — many parts differ between 2-door and 4-door.

What if a part shows fitment for my model but a different year range?

Do not assume it fits. Jeep made mid-generation changes (axles, dashes, emissions equipment) that make year ranges strict. If your year is outside the listed range, send us your VIN and we'll confirm the right part number.

Will parts for a stock Jeep fit my lifted/modified rig?

Sometimes. Lift kits change driveline angles, brake line lengths, track bar geometry and more. When ordering steering, suspension, driveshafts or exhaust for a modified Jeep, tell us your lift height and tire size and we'll verify compatibility.

Every Jeep belongs to a generation code, and nearly every part on JAP is cataloged against it. Find yours:

// STEP 2 — THE GOTCHAS THAT CAUSE RETURNS

2-door vs 4-door. JKU/JLU (Unlimited) rigs have longer wheelbases — driveshafts, rock sliders, cables, soft tops and many suspension parts are NOT interchangeable with 2-doors.
Rubicon vs non-Rubicon. Rubicons run Dana 44s (front and rear), lockers, disconnecting sway bars and 4.10 gears. Axle, driveline and some skid plate parts differ.
Engine matters. A JL could have a 2.0L turbo, 3.6L V6, 3.0L EcoDiesel or 4xe hybrid — intakes, exhausts, and cooling parts are engine-specific.
Mid-generation splits. JK changed engines in 2012; TJ changed dashes in 2003; YJ changed to a center high-mount brake light in 1994. Year ranges on listings are strict — respect them.
Existing modifications. Lifted rigs need longer brake lines, adjusted control arms and re-angled driveshafts. Tell us what's already on the Jeep when asking about fitment.
